Sign Language Classes
For Parents
Baby sign language classes are theme based with cirriculum appropriate for children’s routines and first words. baby Signing Time! and Signing Time! products and materials are used to reinforce vocabulary and provide carryover activities. Each week's theme, such as bath time, bedtime, playtime, colors, etc, includes relevant signs and practice with books or songs. Most sessions are 4 weeks and classes last 90 minutes. You will learn when and how to sign language with your child and how to incorporate signs into your daily routines. Classes are appropriate for families with children aged birth to three.
Private classes are also available and offer the ability to design curriculum around your schedule and individual routines. Private classes include all of the information on research, why and how to sign, basic signs, extended vocabulary relevant to you and your child, signs to use with two appropriate children’s books and songs. Private classes are ideal for children with special needs or delayed language.
Workshops are designed for large groups who may have members interested in using sign language with young children. They are a great introduction to the idea and give enough information to get started. The workshop is designed to precede the classes, but is not a prerequisite. You will learn a little about how and why to sign, some research and basic signs. Workshops are usually used to gain additional information about signing to decide if it is something the members of your group want to pursue.

The use of American Sign Language (ASL) is appropriate for any early childhood education center that is interested. Signs and activities are simple to incorporate into their existing curriculum. Supplies, many of the resources, tools and support needed to introduce a signing program into your facility are included in the cost. It’s easy and fun, and with the added benefits learning ASL gives the children in your program, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start signing sooner.
